What do you want in Half Life 3?
What do you want to see in Half-Life 3 or what is on your wish list of features in the next Half Life game? I compiled a short list of features I would like to see added, as well as a couple of lingering questions left behind from Half-Life 2. Feel free to comment below any questions you want to see answered in the next episode of Half Life or in a new title.
Source Engine Update
Co-op Mode
Better Vehicles
AI Director
An Ending
Who is G-man?
What happens to Alyx and Gordon?
Source Engine Update
Half Life 2 brought us the Source engine when it was released in 2004. This game engine was designed to be flexible and modular to allow for “seamless integration of new features and technologies.” It’s amazing how Source has managed to still hang around 8 years later. I guess it shows that Valve did manage to build a game engine that can be updated over time. Even though games recently released using Source aren’t cutting edge graphically, they still look good today. None-the-less, the Source engine needs another update so it doesn’t fall behind. I wouldn’t mind some improved graphics for Half Life 2: Episode 3, or a Source 2 engine for Half Life 3.
Co-Op Mode
Fun in numbers! Valve gave us a co-op mode in Portal 2 and I would have never thought it could be done, and done well. Why not introduce a co-op mode for Half Life 3? Co-op adds much more excitement to the game when you’re playing with a friend. Teaming up as Gordon and Alyx would make for great game play. It doesn’t even have to be part of the main story, but as an unlock or Steam achievement you earn for beating the game. Imagine fighting off Combine as you and your friend travel around City 17? I never thought the makers of Resident Evil could pull off co-op in their franchise, but they did and did it well.
Better Vehicles

We had some cool vehicles in Half Life 2. We got to drive around in a chopped up muscle car and a fun buggy. You might disagree, but I was always a fan of the controls and how the vehicles handled. It was so simple, easy, and fun to drive, and it would be a crime if Half Life 3 didn’t have something fun to zip or fly around in. Give us something with a gun so we can shoot down an enemy while on the run.
AI Director
Left 4 Dead gave us a great feature in gaming with their AI Director. It added dynamic gaming by randomly changing up the game’s pace and difficulty. Spawn points became random and the number of enemies encountered also varied. I think Valve should use the Director in all of their games. It would be perfect to use in Half Life 3. Imagine playing the game and all of the sudden a random Combine swarm goes on the attack and you are forced to defend, flee, or hide. Now picture this if you’re playing with a friend in co-op mode. The swarms of opposition don’t have to appear as often as zombie hordes in L4D, but this little bit of randomness could only add to the gaming experience.
An Ending
Half Life 2: Episode 2 left us hanging. Half Life 3 must not leave us hanging. It’s one thing to leave us hanging on an ending if you plan to release periodic add-ons or DLC, but not if you are going to take years before continuing the story. I have a hard enough time remembering how my favorite TV show ended the season prior. I will need to replay Half-Life 2 just so I can remember its story. If HL3 is going to be a continuation, then please give us fans some sort of closure. Will we get our crowbar back in Half-Life 3?
Who is G-Man?

Since we are on the topic of endings and closure in Half Life. How about we find out who G-Man is? Our first encounter with G-Man comes during the original Half-Life. Since then, we know nothing about him besides he tells Gordon what to do. He apparently knows a lot about what’s going on in the Half-Life story, but how, why, and what is his intent? Give us something about this guy. I wonder if the developers or story writers even have a defined story for him.
What happens to Alyx and Gordon?
Again, this relates directly to giving us an ending or some closure in Half Life 3. Episode 2 left me wonder what happened to Gordon and Alyx at the end of EP 2? Where did Gordon go? The game ends with a crying Alyx holding onto her father’s dead body… The game ends with more questions than it began with. You don’t learn anything from the start to the finish of the game.

Post a comment below and tell us what you want to see in the next Half-Life.

When I shot a windo there should be new phisics , new weapon sounds new stuff
There should be bosses
new head crabs
new weapons
upgrade weapons/suit
I think HL3 defenately deserves a new engine with some better visuals and destructible enviroments, but i wouldn´t get that p***** if they made it in the good old Source engine.
I really would like to know the truth about Gman but at the same time i think that it should be saved for the last installment of the series, like for Half Life 3: Episode 2 or whatever just to get a really epic ending. It seems that i have lived with the fact of him being this weird mysterious guy for so long that i don´t really feel an urgent need to really know his story.
And last and one of the most important things to me is: PLEASE make the game for PC first then port it to consoles, not the other way arround, and try to make a true Half Life game and not a cooler version of CoD.
I would like to see more imaginative physics manipulating weapons like the gravity gun or the portal gun. I really don’t want it to go CoD style and have 10 variations of the SMG.
I’m playing thru HL2 again and with newer video cards running everything on High this game STILL looks amazing.
I can’t wait either way. Half life and valve will forever be my favorite game and developer.if half life 3 resembles COD in any way I will cry myself to sleep. I was prepared to buy hl2 on its original release date,I was pumped for it,but then they postponed it for more than a year. It was horrible waiting, but when it came out…..f*** it was amazing.thats what valve does, their like artists that refuse to release their work until it is finished.
I want one thing, and one thing only:
On the Borealis, Gordon and Alyx are attacked. Then the floor falls down beneath them, along with one member of the Combine. They are in a room separated by glass. The Combine soldier is then gassed to death in their half of the room.
Gordon and Alyx flee, and find themselves in a test chamber with a portal gun, but as you grab it, dark energy zaps the room and warps the portal gun… Now, it only opens portals between our world and a border world. In order to complete the section, you have to use the portal gun to find platforms and ways of exiting the test chamber by exiting to the other world, and re-entering this one. It would also solve the massive problem of putting a portal gun into the game with the fourth-wall breaking sight of the character you play Valve has been desperate to avoid.
The section ends with you coming face-to-face with a version of GLADoS, but it is no more than a cameo, as you escape and that version of GLADoS is destroyed by the Combine – we also find out it has been trying to connect to Black Mesa and the Combine’s own systems to kill everyone, and that is why Elaine McLaine’s voice-work appeared in Episode 2.
Sound good?
Something inside of me thinks G-Man is either a form of Gordon Freeman, or his Dad.
~Since the Borealis is aperture maybe you and Alyx get to work with the girl from Portal
~Also, like everyone else: Who the hell is “G-man”?
~I would like to see a destructable enviroment like in Battlefield Bad-company 2, where you could break doors and bring down buildings.
~Also, if the origins of Dr Freeman were better explained.
~Also, maybe a sort of gun where you can corrupt combine machines(Smaller ones), ammo will be rare
Half Life 3 should be what Half Life 2 was to the gaming world when it came out those many years ago.
I think that G-Man Should Be explained And We Should have Cremators,Poison grenade,Destructible Enviormant,NEW WEAPONS And scary Gameplay.
I would love to see OZ deathmatch included with halflife 3 deathmatch.
I think that
>All of the characters from Portal and the L4D series should show up somewhere in the story.
>Destructible environment.
>An explination of why Gordon hasn’t said a word in his adventure.
>Throwable crowbars
>Return of Bullsquids and Adrian Shepard.
>Larger amount of followers (like in HL1)
>And, who is G-Man
You could try to bring Dr.Breen back.
New enemies (though keep the old), like new types of zombies, aliens. New weapons. I want to keep the trusty rusty old crowbar, along with the gravity gun, the colt python and the spas-12 etc.
Good physics along with destructable environments, like hl2.
The story plot should be further unraveled (borealis, g-man), although the should keep some mysteries for hl-4
First person view without interuptions!! This is what added greatly to the immersive gameplay of hl1 and 2. (And keep Gordon silent.)
Beautiful, immersive and varying environments, like hl2, ranging from urban environments to forests, and antlion lairs.
Things I want to see:
1. DMM, and more destructable environments.
2. Ironsights.
3. Multiple endings:
a.(Good Ending)Gordon decides to destroy the Borealis because of the dangerous things on board.
b.(Normal Ending) Gordon teleports to the Combine homeworld, and kills the leader.
c. (Bad ending): Gman suddenly opens a megaportal,Gordon discovers G-Man is of Combine orgin, and Gordon is killed.
4.Vehicular Combat, ex. flying a helicopter and shooting down enemy gunships
5.FUZZY HEADCRABS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My god man, I for one would not like to see HL3 turn Call of Duty-esque with it’s constant person switching. The story element gets lost between the switching and the firefights. This is where HL beats the crap out of CoD, with its brilliant story telling, allowing you to get to know the character.
Their has to be more advancements in the zombies. HL1 gave standard zombies, HL2 gave fast and black zombies, Ep1/2 gave zombines so there needs to be another type around the corner. Maybe a transition between the big black aliens from HL1 and normal zombies, showing a progression since the headcrab latched on.
At least 1 new gun must be in it, but also simple functions to go along side it. Make it so that, in an emergency I can throw my trusty crowbar, but it has a newly scavenged system attached so it returns to me, similar to Thor’s hammer.
There’s so much oppourtunity to make this a great game, so hopefully it isn’t cocked up.
Getting to know the character?
Have you even played the Half Life games?
The only information you got on Gordon Freeman was at the start of Half Life (1). His name, age and where he comes from. How are you supposed to get to know a character that doesn’t talk… I mean, they haven’t even created a model for Gordon. Only concept arts, and the box. On which you can see, he has a glasses and a bad a** goatee. No, he doesn’t talk, you can’t see him in-game. But let’s keep it that way. As a matter of fact, i would like a new animation system. Were you could actually see, the torso and the legs of Gordon while you play. Looking down off course.
Don’t begin about getting to know a character. These things are for Alyx, Eli, Dr. Kleiner and Barney. But even these characters, have mysterious aspects. Even though Alyx talks a lot, you don’t really get to know her. You only have a lot of questions, that hopefully will be awnsered in the upcoming game. Discussion closed.
there is a picture of gorden in dr.klieners lab dumbass we need to know more about gorden!!!!
You have just reached full retard mode.
not only, is your grammar horrible… But, this picture that you are talking about… is JUST a picture. It tells NOTHING about Gordon what so ever.
All i want is for Gordon to say atleast one word.
Just a few touches here and there. What I really want is a sort of ending that leaves you shocked. For example, all of the events you experienced were nothing but a dream…
Have you seen the ending to ‘lost’? Any ending but that!
Please, please, please…
#1) Take us back to the Zen worlds. Even if that fat boss at the end of Half-Life one died it would be fantastic to see Alien worlds built with new
graphics and designs that would make other space games seem obsolete. Valve has already done a most excellent job shrouding the borrealis in mystery. It would be a shame if the Borrealis was simply decommissioned or unexplored. The potential for a great story is still there! Don’t f*** up Half Life 3 by leaving unanswered questions!
#2) If the Borealis is a portal it better d*** well be used to go somewhere.
#3) The G man must be explained. Who are his employers? Why has he brought Freeman to rise from the ashes yet again?
#4) Half Life 3 would be soooooo much sicker if you could play the game through alternating roles. Traditionally the series has always been a first person saga and it should remain that way. However, imagine the shock players would get out of being able to play gordan freeman.. and then…transition to say Corpral Shepard in a style of gameplay similar to
the Call of Duty seriess where players live the story of the game by switching between characters.
#5.) More weapons is a must!!!
#6.) Terrain!!
In episode 2 they briefly mentioned the Borealis that was part of Aperture Science. I would like to see some story with Black Mesa played out, would have been easier to do so if Eli lived.
Also want to see some more romance between Gordon and Alyx, yes yes I’m a big softy but we all have to admit there is something happening there….even if Gorden’s in his 40′s and she’s barely 20. And if it does end there better be a happily ever after or Valve will get some very unpleasant mail!
Due to Valve leaving the project for so long i think there also needs to be some work done to the engine as mentioned, however i will be more concerned with how the story plays out
GMAN!!!!! i really should have put that up the top, i want to know who (or for that matter what) he is
p.s. crowbar
dont u think that gorden was put into staises for 20 years he is only 27 (as shown in hl1)
>Destructable environments.
I would like to see:
>Large scale terrain creation tool, similar to Frostbite, with improved draw distances, decreased lag
>Improved 3d skybox
>PORTAL gun
>new enemies
>Gman, enemy or friend.
>More weapons,
etc…
